I received recommendations to look for patches, specify speed
explicitely and even fix the switch. I've done all that prior to
posting ( except fixing the switch which I know is not a problem ),
maybe I wasn't explicit enough in my post.

Anyway, it turned out to be a hardware issue, and after replacing
motherboard on V880 gigabit started working, with and without
autonegotiation.
