canon virtual print queues

This post is a follow up to one I made a few weeks ago re getting Canon
printers to work under Solaris. I've not reached a final conclusion on the
earlier post since a great deal of testing remains to be done (and I don't
have 24x7 to do it).

None the less, I did meet with some success this afternoon with the following
lpadmin string based on a suggestion originally made by Srinivasa Rao
Duddupudi (thanks!):

lpadmin -p lpd_hancan03 -o nobanner=never -I any -s lpd_hancan03!print

(IP address was added to /etc/hosts, of course)

The good news is that the customer's canon 300-405 printer works fine but we
have not been able to suppress banner pages. In addition to the above, we've
passed nobanner along with the actual print request manually from the command
line (Solaris 5.6 in this case) but that has not worked. The customer has
reviewed the printer interface but did not find anything specific to the
printer's behavior relative to banner pages.

Therefore, I have TWO questions for the group this afternoon:

First Question: Can anyone offer constructive feedback on our use of the "-o
nobanner=never" option? I'd researched this extensively but perhaps there's
something I overlooked.

Second Question: The customer says another *VIRTUAL* print queue prints with
no banner (Different model printer. Don't know how it was created). I've been
unable to find any config files on the server itself to tell me how this
miracle queue might be configured. Nothing under /etc/lp/interfaces... Nothing
under /var/lp or /var/spool. Open to suggestions on where else I might look
(been down this path before).

P.S.: With all due respect, we do not have the luxury of enforcing another
solution on the customer so please do not recommed we try CUPS or that we
print through NT/2000, etc. We hit pay dirt today by getting this 300-405 to
print at all... Now I'm just trying to get rid of the banners. Customer is
prepared to live with them if need be but I'm striving for 100%.

My thanks in advance.
