Thanks to the replies of all the gurus, I managed to get vnc to do what I
wanted, run the oracle installer. After copying the files and making the
directories like it says in the readme, I added the path /usr/openwin/bin
to my $PATH and from there is started the vncserver with these parameters.

vncserver :15 -nolisten local -ac -httpd ${VNC}/classes -cc 3

>From there I installed the vnc viewer. I made a new connection to the
server:15.

The program ran asking me for the password I used when I first started the
vncserver. It them gives me a console with root access. I changed to the
oracle user and added this to my .profile

DISPLAY=server.name:15.0; export DISPLAY then su - oracle again to load the
changes.

I then changed dir to the oracle cd and run the installer and it worked like
a charm.

Thanks for all your prompt replies.

Regards Andrew
