dear list,
i have a problem with dns server (bind8) setup on one of my boxes.
in.named happily resolves everything it is SOA for, be it local (with
dig/nslookup) or remote (when used as dns server from a client). but as
soon as it should resolve something *outside* its authority, i get a
timeout; strange enough, i also get a timeout when digging such a domain
at an external dns (like "dig @our.slave.ns sun.com any"). i went through
my setup a dozen times, but cannot find any problem. the named.ca file is
the latest from ftp.rs.internic.net. the "." zone is properly configured
as
zone "." {
type hint;
file "named.ca";
}
everything else (loopback, domains, address-to-name ptr) seems to be in
good shape too, as everything i am authoritative for works.
i have no errors in my log files as far as i can see.
any help would be very much appreciated.
i will summarize.
many thanks,
nico wieland
