FC-AL disk replacement and no working qfe controller

Dear all,

after a system (FC-AL)disk crash on our Sunfire 280R running Solaris 8
we restored it from our backup tape to new a FC-AL disk.
To reconfigure the /dev and /devices trees we used the following commands:

# mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a
# devfsadm -C -r /a -p /a/etc/path_to_inst
# reboot

(it takes us several hours to find out the "-p" option to boot the
system successfully!!)

During the boot process the installed Quad-Ethernet controller (qfe) was
not recognized - ifconfig: plumb qfe0: BAD FILE NUMBER - although it was
running in the former system very well. Also the SUNWqfe* packages are still
in the system.

As a workaround we reinstalled these packages and everything is running fine.

Is there any hint for this behavior or do we have to change, modify our
(restore) procedure?

Many thanks in advance for your help.
