Comparing two date strings: any easy way?

I need a quick and easy way (perl one-liner, shell
built-in, etc) to compare two date strings, such as:

Tue Nov 19 08:56:06 PST 2002
Mon Jan 6 15:43:59 PST 2003

Possibly also how many days (roughly) they are apart.

Any suggestions?
