More info: Setting up Virtual IP's

Sorry for the lack of info. Here is what I did:

- matched the broadcast and netmask to the hme0 settings and want to assign a new ip for hme0:1

- have hme0 set for x.x.x.24 and want x.x.x.30 on hme0:1.

- have hostname.hme0:1 with the .30 address and also put it in /etc/hosts

these two systems are in our dmz and only the other sun box in the dmz can ping/telnet to it. i was able to telnet from my desktop inside our lan to it earlier, and now it for some reason stopped doing that. I cannot ping/telnet to it from any other machines inside our network.

the only thing i have not done is rebooted the server.

thanks again everyone.
