Hi Managers,
I had a boot drive failure on a SparcStation 10 running Solaris 8 (OK, you
can stop laughing now). I'm trying to boot Solaris 8 from CD (6/00 media)
but the boot keeps crashing.
I'm using a Sun external CDROM drive, so that shouldn't be an issue.
However, the amber led on the front of the cdrom drive is doing a slow
flash (3 seconds on, 3 off) but the OS loading seems to go OK for several
minutes then dumps core on a unidentified module error of some type.
Sorry I can't be more specific, it scrolls off the screen to fast to see and
the drive hasn't been formatted yet to receive a core dump.
I updated these machines before by booting off the cdrom so I know it can be
done.
But then I had a formatted boot disk to work with. Is that required to boot
off the cdrom?
Thanks,
Rick
