Thanks to all responded.It was quite urgent and critical.
I was about to restore the entire root backup.Then I saw
the mails from
Dan Lowe <dan@tangledhelix.com
Ido Dubrawsky <ido@dubrawsky.org
to change the permission to 4755.it worked.Now everything
working fine.Thanks again for saving my time.

Hi,
Solaris 7 5/99 with all recommended patches.
Machine is installed as a standalone.
Problem :
Not able to su to root or any other user.
when I am doing
$su root
su: Sorry
This message normaly comes if password is wrong.
But i am able to login from console using root
and anyother user.
from root i am able to switch user to normal user.
I tried changing the password of root.
still there is no difference.
Please note i am not telneting to the machine.
I am doing from console.
Urgent help required.
