sendmail question

Hi,

I have a strange sendmail problem. I have created a sendmail.cf (called client.cf) file that its
only job is to always have the from header set to a particular user and always relay all mail to a
machine called 'mailgw', this is the .mc file that I used to create the cf file. This file is being
saved as /etc/mail/client.cf and sendmail is being called as follows '/usr/lib/sendmail -t -f
edp@bne.secmail.com.au -C/etc/mail/client.cf -oQ/tmp' and is being run by an ordinary user.

   OSTYPE(`solaris8')dnl
   FEATURE(`nullclient', `mailgw')
   MASQUERADE_AS(`bne.secmail.com.au')
   deffine(`confFROM_HEADER', `Security Mailing Services <edp@bne.secmail.com.au>')

Now the strange part is, this config file is being used to send email's succesfully to many
different addresses some internal to this company and some external. When I try to send an email to
a particular addresses say 'fred@nowhere.com' these messages are always queued and mailq returns
this status for the messages.

   ----Q-ID---- --Size-- -----Q-Time----- ------------Sender/Recipient------------
   gBHNsPc26152 48 Wed Dec 18 09:54 edp@bne.secmail.com.au
                    (host map: lookup (nowhere.com): deferred)
                                          fred@nowhere.com

This is happening even if I have multiple 'To' addresses, the other addresses get delivered without
being queued. There is a sendmail process that processes this queue every 30 mins and some nights it
can take 7 hours or more until these email's are finally delivered. The emails are sent each night
at 22:00, and the last three nights have been very random with regards to the actual delivery time.

email's queued Tue 17th @ 22:01, delivered Wed 18th @ 7:49
email's queued Mon 16th @ 22:00, delivered Mon 16th @ 22:19
email's queued Fri 13th @ 22:00, delivered Sat 14th @ 14:19

Sendmail version 8.11.6+Sun, Solaris 8, Used 'Makefile' in /usr/lib/mail/cf to convert .mc file to
.cf file and copied to /etc/mail.

I am hoping that someone can give me some ideas on what/where I should be looking for this, any
hints would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Darren Brechman-Toussaint
