ftpd error messages

Hi guys:

I am running wuftpd on an Ultra1, and off late I am gettting the following
error messages. Adding to that the ftp downloads to this machine is taking
unusually long times. Below is the message

Dec 12 09:35:48 <hostname> ftpd[10830]: sleeping: fcntl lock of pid file
failed: Resource temporarily unavailable

Any ideas what this could this mean ?
