Samba question

Gurus:

I have a Solaris 8 (02/02) box running the latest version of Samba. I want
this Solaris machine to only have a couple of entries for admins in
/etc/passwd (no NIS/NIS+/LDAP).

The problem is that samba for some reason refuses to let my windows users
mount their home dirs from this samba machine w/o them having entries in the
unix (/etc/passwd & /etc/shadow) password databases.

I did create entries for these users in the samba password database but
these dont seem to be enough. I really dont want my windows users to have
shell accounts on this server. Any idea on how to tell samba only to look in
its own password database and ignore /etc/passwd and shadow?

Many thanks in advance.

-Tim
