How does one tune vxfs_ninode (or it's ufs counterpart)?

We recently had an error
vxfs: [ID 250427 kern.warning] WARNING: msgcnt 879 vxfs: mesg 014: vx_iget
- inode table overflow

And Veritas' website suggests increasing the parameter:

However, they don't mention how high to set it, and what it should be
based on. (e.g. max # of files open on a file system?)
