erasing dacstore

Is there any way to erase the contents of the dacstore on a drive but not using an array to do it?
I have a 9 GB drive, originally from an A1000 and now in a Netra T1, and the format command gives : c0t0d0 <Symbios_StorEDGEA1000-0205 ..., I want it to read: c0t0d0 <SUN9.0G ... .
I'm familiar with the process of failing the drive while it's in the array, as well as tip hardwire sysWipe through the serial port on the array, which nicely erases all dacstore info on all drives in about 2 seconds (authorized for SUN personnel only). Formatting under Format doesn't do it, and I've dug around under Format and haven't seen anything obvious yet.

Will summarize.
