Hello sunmanagers,

a colleague of mine has a project for networkmanagementstations.
At the moment there is a E3500 as primary server and a Ultra 1 as backup
both connected to one scsi Raidbox.
The purpose of the installation is that the Ultra 1 will take over all
services from the E3500 if there is a failure on the box. THis works at the
moment via a lot of scripts (in specific cases there is a problem that both
boxes mount the storage at same time very bad thing)
Now the hardware will be changed to a 480R as primary and a 280R as backup
(both have two LAN-Interface one can be used as private network and also
modem and RCS) , storage will be a A5200 housing 6 disks (this is really
not a i/o critical thing). Now we don't can go for clusterservices which
would be the easiest way to achieve this the question is if anybody out
there has a comparable scenario running or has ideas how to achieve this.
At the moment we will go with the volumemanager stuff (deporting and
importing so you have at least write locks and can check again the failed
machine). It is not extreme time critical so it can take a little time
until the backup takes over all services from the failed machine (also MAC
and IP address)

TIA will summarize

Juergen
