"ring buffer overflow" on a Netra AC200

Greetings:

I have a Netra AC200 out in the field that is connected to a serial console
manager for out of band access. Recently, some new software was installed
that apparently caused a lot of "console" spew. The end result of this is
that I can no longer access the serial console; hoever, I _can_ access the
LOM prompt. Whenever I attempt to type any characters on the console, I see
/var/adm/messages filling up with the following error:

NOTICE: su0: ring buffer overflow

>From the research I've done, it seems this error indicates that the serial
buffer filled up with data, causing it to start dropping characters. I've
tried killing ttymon (so that init respawns it), but this only prints out a
new "[machine] login: " prompt without allowing me to type anything. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to how to regain access to the serial console
without rebooting?

Thanks in advance for your help; I'll be sure to post a summary as I haven't
been able to find a lot of information on this particular topic.

Steve
