System Won't Boot With Tape in Tape Drive

I've got a Compaq Proliant ML 370 running Intel Solaris 8 that won't boot when
a tape is in the 8mm Exabyte Tape Drive. When a tape is in the tape drive, it
goes into the Device Configuration Screens. Without a tape, the system boots
up just fine.

I've tried daisy chaining another 8mm tape drive and putting the tape in the
second tape drive, but no luck. I've looked in the cmos to see if the boot
sequence was correct. It was. I've replaced the tape drive.

Any ideas?
