Chroot+SSH/ Solaris 8

Hello all,

I'm running OpenSSH 3.4p1 (built with chroot+ssh patch from
http://chrootssh.sourceforge.net), OpenSSL 0.9.6g on Solaris 8.
The machine is an E250 with 2Gb of memory and has 2x 36Gb HD.

OpenSSH is working perfectly and I can log in as a "jailed" user
via SSH (my "root" directory is correctly set) and perform all the
standard sh commands. However, when I attempt to use SCP, I appear to
be logged in but am then unable to carry out any commands
For example, when I attempt to copy a file from my machine to the
server via WinSCP (using SCP1) I first receive a warning message:

'Command "groups" failed with return code 1 and error message groups:
No passwd entry'

The SCP log then shows a list of errors related to the "unalias" command
and I then appear to be logged in. The owner and group column, however,
only display the uid and gid as opposed to the user and group names.
If I attempt to copy a file from the server to my machine, it fails
with the log reporting an eror of "unknown user 1011" where 1011 is
the uid.

I believe I have set up the actuual chroot jail correctly,
creating the required directories and copying the relevant libraries
to their appropriate locations.

Any help would be much appreciated since I have been battling with
this problem for a short but intense while!

Many thanks in advance,

Jeremy Gomez
