Syslogd Server LAG?

Gurus,

I am running Core Sol 8 02-02 Full patched, as a syslog server on a Fire V100
with a dedicated subnet NFS mount to a Net Appliance NAS (Gigabit both ways)

I have about 35 devices sysloging, and have tried both direct write to the IDE
drives and via NFS to the NAS. I still have major delays and can not run a
real time tail -f of any particular system without a delay or occasional lag.

This proves to be a problems for some log processing scripts, debugging, and
database processing scripts I have running.

QUESTION.

Why is sun syslog so slow ( not withstanding syslog is UDP, I am dedicated
subnet, no broadcasts and have tweaked my Ethernet interface on all machines
as best as possible. On some routers I have applied QoS for UDP syslog to
ensure it is priorities while crossing networks.

What can I do to improve syslog performance and make a solid Syslog machine
that can handle a couple dozen devices.

Thanks in advance.

Cian
