Thanks for the MANY replies I received.
Unfortunately (from all of your replies) it was as I expected - you cant NFS
export the base partition and hope to export the mount points as well...

Recursive mounts are not possible (the main thing that makes it impossible
is the fact that NFS clients cannot detect mount point traversal and POSIX
requires inodes within a filesystem to be unique; i.e., the three
filesystems must have a unique filesystem id on the client.
Unfortunately we have a strange NIS+/automount config here that doesn't work
when you attempt to export all of the drives... :-(
I will investigate further...
