Dear Admins,

We are a school of over 16,000 students and over 2000 support faculty
and staff. We are running SCT Banner2000 on a UNIX environment
(currently an Alpha 4100). We are in the process of evaluating for a
future hardware replacement.

We are interested in your feedback on a few items, or any stories you
can share positive or negative or both for your experience with UNIX DB
server environments:

(*) What kind of cluster solutions have you implemented for an SCT
Banner2000 or similar Oracle Student Information Databases? Was the
cluster at the OE level or at the Application Level? (i.e. truClusters
or Oracle Clusters)

(*) What experiences with NAS or SAN solutions have you implemented and
how have they compared with your past experience of physical/system
attached storage?

(*) What experiences with file services such as VxFS, JFS, AFS, DFS,
etc, have you experienced and have they provided a sizable enhancement
off-balancing the management overhead?

Thank you for your time and thoughts and we look forward to sharing our
experiences in the future.
