USB Keyboard annoyances

I've run into 2 different problems with my Sun USB Keyboard on a SunBlade
100.

Setup: SunBlade and PC are plugged into a USB KVM switch. I'm running
Solaris 8 with a variety of patches (it probably needs a new cluster
applied).

Problem 1: I log in as a normal user, do some work, switch to the other
system (via the KVM), come back (after the CDE screen saver has kicked in)
and whenever I type in my password and hit return, the system beeps but does
not let me back in. The beep tells me that it's seeing the typing, but I'm
otherwise confused (and still locked out)... I have also tried using the
root password and had the same results.

Problem 2: Less of an actual problem and more of a "How do I get this to do
what I want"....when I reboot the system, if the KVM is talking to the other
computer, the Sun box say, "No keyboard, defaulting to ttya". Is there a
way to set it so that it always goes to the screen/keyboard even if one is
not detected?

Thanks in advance.
