solstice 6.1

Hi all

Trying to find out if solstice 6.1 has any problems running on Solaris
9. I would like to know if anyone is running solaris 9 on there backup
server and using solstice 6.1. And if they ran into any problems with
solstice 6.1 on Solaris 9 server.

I have a second part to this email

I am currently running a backup server with solaris 8 and solstice 6.1.1
on a enterprise 250. I have two L1000s and one 4700 tape library
connected to it. I upgraded solaris and solstice backup this spring on
the server. Everything seem to go okay on the upgrades ( new install of
solaris 8 and upgrade of solstice 6.1) and the backups was working like
before. In June we added some NT and Netware systems to the solstice
backup. Around that time I notice that the data was not getting
compressed any more. So I set up in solstice backup that all NT and
Netware Clients backup to the 4700 library and all of the Unix systems
(solaris) backup to the L1000's. But that did not fix the problem of
not being compress. I have tried working with sun support but all they
do is read the stuff out of the manual.
I the manual for DLT7000 states that you should only use one type of
compression, hardware or software. There are three ways to select the
density, the front panel select button, software command and in the
directives.

Before any of the changes I would get 60 to 75 gb on a tape on the
L1000s and around 35 gb on the 4700. After the changes to solaris and
solstice there was no change on the amount of data I was getting on a
tape. But when I added the NT and Netware servers to the backup the
density changed for all of the servers that are being backup.

setup on L1000
devices = /dev/rmt/1ubn
directives = Unix standard directives
drive = 35gb, compress, no density overwrite

setup on 47000
devices = dev/rmt/0hbn
directives = NT or Netware with compression directives
drive = 20gb, compress, no density overwrite

I have tried every option in having only one way of compression on
(device, directives, or drive) but it does not change the amount of data
that gets on a tape. The manual states that a "When a write from BOT
occurs, the selected density will be used".

I need to know how to send a "write from BOT" to a tape. Maybe this will
fix the problem or if anyone has any other idea on what the problem
would be?

thanks for any help you can give.
