I have an Ultra 10 running Solaris 9 with the latest patches. It's
serving as a NIS+ master for the csi.mscd.edu NIS+ subdomain.
Recently I've noticed that changing a user's NIS+ password generates
the following error in /var/adm/messages:
Sep 18 08:23:31 enigma passwd[12930]: [ID 891360 user.alert] NIS+
system error
Sep 18 08:23:31 enigma passwd[12930]: [ID 893259 user.alert] Failover
to old protocol
I'm using 'passwd -r nisplus user' to change the password. (SMC isn't
working right now, which makes administering NIS+ a real pain, but
that's a story for another post.)
Has anyone seen this error before? It doesn't affect anything that I
can tell, but it would be nice to know what causes it. I haven't been
able to find anything on Sunsolve about it or in the NIS+ or passwd
man pages. Any help would be appreciated; I will summarize responses.
Thanks,
Joy
