Hi,

sorry for the late summary, but I waited to be "sure" that the problem is really
fixed...

Thanks to Scott Howard and Ted John for a fast answer.

Scott pointed out, that by checking the directory
/var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/111433-02 for the file "undo.Z" I'd be able to check
if the patch has been installed with or without option -d. Since there was an
undo.Z, I tried "patchrm 111433-02" and.... it worked. Don't ask me why my
colleague had difficulties with this.

Ted comment on the described behaviour of our Blade which was the reason I
wanted to patch the kernel anyway. He proposed to check the powerd
configuration, /etc/power.conf. Though the standard configuration does not
autoshutdown or suspend the machine, we completely disabled powerd.

Since applying patch 108528-15 (not the newst one, I know) and diabling the
power management, we had had no lookups or spontaneous reboots, Hooray!

Here is the original post:

  Dear list members,

we recently bought a Blade 1000. The preinstalled Solaris 8 has the
kernel patch 111433-02 installed, which is needed for Blades if the
patch 108528-08 or older is installed. That is the case.

Since the machine runs quite unstable --- spontaneous reboots after idle
  periods
--- I decided to get the newest revision of 108528. Unfortunately, I
can't install it, because 111433-02 has to be backed out, but a patchrm
just produces the following error message:

Patch 111433-02 was installed without backing up the original
files. It cannot be backed out.

So the question is: what do I do now? Is it safe to force the
installation of 108528? Or do I have to reinstall the whole OS? Is there
a way to remove the files of 111433-02 manually?

  thanks in advance, regards, Levent
