Upgrade Ultra-2 with 16GB hotswap SCA disk, possible ?

I have to upgrade our Ultra-2 Enterprise for continous failure in Seagate
SUN2.1G internal disk, the Sun specs talks for support until 9GB internal SCA
disk, but i have a 16 GB Quantum Atlas V 7200 RPM to use. That server
also have a double SUN4.2G external DISK(cube box) and ST39102LCSUN9.0G Seagate
external disk with SCA internal box. The system runs Solaris 2.6 and going
to migrate to Solaris 8.

My plan is:

.- Unplug the Seagate from the external box and plug into the internal
server for primary disk (install OS).
.- Connect into external box the new 16GB disk , because when a try to
connect into internal bay in server, the probe-scsi show '000000 00000 0000'
in data and send a 'clear' screen , and did not show a detailed info.

Plase send your opinions about to use 16GB disk into Ultra-2 Servers and old
UltraSCSI box performance. In a test, the server send a CPU panic, after a
success format of 16GB disk into internal bay.

Thanks in Advance, sorry for my poor english...
