Greetings Guru's,
A two years back I set up a File server using a high end x86 Box. The specs of
the box are as follows. At that point there were no hardware RAID cards that
supported Ultra 160 and Solaris 8 x86. Therefore I used two Adaptec 39160
cards and set up disks one on each channel. The configuration of the machine
is as follows:
2 x Intel Pentium III 933 MHz CPUs
1 GB ECC SDRAM 133 MHz
Serverworks HE-SL chipset
On board Ultra160 dual channel controller
Built in 10/100 NIC
2 x PCI64 66Mhz slots.
2 x Adaptec 39160 Dual Channel Ultra160 cards on each of the PCI64 66 MHz
slots
4 x IBM 36 Gb 10K rpm drives Ultra160, One drive / channel on the Adaptec
39160s (for export)
2 x Seagate 9 Gb 10K rpm drives on the onboard controllers (for system)
The 4 IBM drives are configured as a RAID 5 volume using disksuite on Solaris
8 x86 giving us 100 Gb of storage space.
The problem now is that we have reached 70% capacity and increasing, so we
need to increase the amount of storage.
Is it possible to add more 36 GB disks and increase the space on the
Metadevice? or would I have to move the data to another server, recreate
another RAID 5 volume with the new disks included and move it back? What would
be the best course of action? Please advise.
I will summarize.
Thank you in advance.
