Dear Managers,

I'm struggling with strange problem with my E450 box and the issue is with
swap!!

# uname -a
SunOS stour1 5.6 Generic_105181-26 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4

Output from swap -s

# swap -s
total: 1707552k bytes allocated + 4294749024k reserved = 1489280k used,
281000k available

# swap -l
swapfile dev swaplo blocks free
/dev/vx/dsk/swapvol1 133,8 16 2049824 263984

# prtconf | grep -i mem
Memory size: 1024 Megabytes

I notice 4294749024k reserved. My question is:
Reserved by what? What processes/applications could possibly reserve
memory? What for? and is there any relationship bet'n physical memory ,
swap ,tmpfs and number of files that can be created in /tmp as swap is
mounted on /tmp file system.

In hp-ux swap is not mounted, it is possible to unmount /tmp fs?

And one more thing i've noticed is that in /tmp file system allowcated
space changes with time...why so?

# df -k /tmp
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
swap 294496 9472 285024 4% /tmp
# df -k /tmp
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
swap 294584 9472 285112 4% /tmp

TIA,
-Santosh
