Dual paths to SAN tape drives

Hello SAN guru's!

Does anybody have a working implementation of fail-over (of any kind) for
Tape drives?

I have several Sun hosts which (currently) have static bindings of the
/dev/rmt targets to specific WWNs. These hosts have dual paths to the SAN,
and I'd like to do something a bit more intelligent, eg if one of the HBAs
or a GBIC, switch-port, cable, etc fail, I'd like the tape drive to
continue to be addressable.

We are using NetBackup and have JNI HBAs (various SBUS models) installed
all round. The tape drives are STK9840s. The SAN comprises of several
Inrange Directors and Brocade switches.

Any workable solution, eg a script to change the /dev/rmt links, together
with how to trigger the script and how to schedule re-run of any failed
backup jobs, will help!

Ideal would of course be some kind of "Alternate Pathing" to the st
devices!

Thanx,
  _Johan
