Solaris 9 & DiskSuite (metatool specifically) plus Solaris 9 warnings

Hello -

I spent all Friday night doing an OS upgrade (actually,
a complete re-install since we were running DiskSuite on
Solaris 8). However, while DiskSuite is "included" with
Solaris 9, the metatool GUI is not. From what I understand
the Solaris Management Console GUI is to be used instead,
however two problems I had with it:

1) Unlike metatool, it won't create volumes from mounted
slices (metatool would give a warning, but would do it).

2) It doesn't update the /etc/vfstab file and I find it too
easy to mess that file up (which is painful to recover from).

Does anyone know if the Solaris 8 metatool binary can be used successfully
on Solaris 9 with correct changes to /etc/vfstab? If not, does anyone have
any hints for updating /etc/vfstab for DiskSuite that's more idiot proof?

I generally don't care to use GUIs for system management, but find that
command line for DiskSuite is too prone for errors for me (perhaps it's
'cos my old eyes can't focus on the slice names and I haven't broken down
for bi-focals yet :-).

While I'm at it, I figured out the work-arounds for Sun Ray Server 1.3
and Solaris 9 (which Fidel Gutierrez posted about earlier this month):
a) The utadm script attempts to modify the /usr/openwin/lib/openwin-sys
file, but since Sun has EOL'd OpenWindows that file doesn't exist.
Copying the file over from Solaris 8 (to the existing directory)
solves that problem (since it's just disabling the special keys
having that file there doesn't seem to cause problems).
b) The utconfig script seems to run best with an old java 1.1 version,
so I just down loaded it from the archives section on the java site.
Neither of these is a biggie, but Sun needs to update these scripts to
make them work correctly in a more "standard" Solaris 9 installation.

And my last Solaris 9 install warning, is to check to see if your system
has an OBP update *before* doing the Solaris 9 install. I got myself in
a situation where my /etc/vfstab file was messed up from DiskSuite and my
OBP was giving me the infamous "Fast Data Access MMU Miss" error (for
which the fix is the OBP flash update which I couldn't do 'cos I couldn't
boot my system -- finally persistence paid off and I was able to boot from
CD, fix my /etc/vfstab file and, very importantly, flash the OBP update.
Not fun!!! :-(
