Dear Gurus and Gurettes,

I first would like to apologize for such a late summary posting.

Next I would like to thank the numerous fellow box beaters on there
wonderful insight and depth of knowledge. I would thank all individually,
but quite frankly it would make this email way to long. So thank you all.

***********************************************************************

The Gray Market has its positives and negatives as expected. I heard some
instances of saving over 75% on the good side and on the opposing side some
major projects being put on hold because of hardware not being delivered on
time, broken or the wrong item.

I would say that the overall feeling was positive, once there was an
established relationship. The voting was around a 70/30 split in favor of
using the Gray Market.

Since I was/am new to the Sun side and had a budget to put into action
quickly, I used your recommendation:) I am happy to say that I ordered 10
systems from one of the recommended companies and could not believe the
saving. Plus all systems were fully integrated and ready to go. We ended
up having one bad stick of RAM, but it was replaced within 24 hours.

Needless to say the power of the group sure allowed me to make a great
impression with my new company. I was able to get a little more horsepower
a few more systems and spent just over half what they had originally
expected.

As for recommendation, I do not want to be a commercial so anyone who would
like to know a few highly recommended Gray Market hardware resellers please
just ask, I will be more than happy to pass them along.

Some suggested Ebay, but said it was a 50/50 shot as to weather you were
going to get quality and what is actually advertised.

Others warned about system in the Gray Market not being eligible for Sun
maintenance. The company I used guaranteed the sytems would qualify for Sun
Maintenance. They actually now have a program where Sun will come onsite
and certify your machines.

So that is the low down on the Gray Market. Be cautious but don't be scared
to use it. Due to the potential of failure, recommendations from others are
highly recommended.

Thank you group for all the wonderful help and more importantly my end of
year bonus!!!

Regards,

Mike
