Running an X server on a headless Sun server

I've been asked to run an X server on a Sun Enterprise box
with no graphics card or monitor, to meet the needs of a
particular application. Simply running the dtlogin start-up
script doesn't work, presumably because there is no frame
buffer or graphics hardware defined on the system.

Some searching on the Net turned up the suggestion that I
run the X application xvfb available from ftp.x.org, but
most of the references to this app hinted that building it
from source is a fairly involved process (and there is no
precompiled version on sunfreeware.com).

Has anyone worked with this app (xvfb) before or know where
I can locate a pre-compiled version for Solaris 8. Alternatively,
is there some other way to solve this problem of running an
X server on a machine with no graphics hardware installed?

Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks ...

Richard
