Login Failure... continues...

For those that have already replied thanks for your help so far but the
problem seems to have worsened.

Attempting to boot into single user mode (boot -s) hangs right after the
"INIT: SINGLE USER MODE" message.

Now when the system boots normally you get the login prompt but after
entering a user name you don't even get a password prompt. It seems to
freeze there. If you ctrl-c the session it goes back to the login prompt.

I am able to ftp into the box still and I downloaded my system and added
set rlim_fd_max=1024
set rlim_fd_cur=1024 (thanks Mike)
and this is when I stopped receiving the password prompt when logging into
the console.

While looking at my console boot logs (I have an E250 and am using the RSC
card) I see this when the system is coming up.

>From my recollection I don't ever remember seing the "su sys" before. I
checked the files in /etc/rc2.d and nothing looks out of the ordinary. When
I look at /usr/lib/ldlibnet.so the file was modified last week some time. I
am the only one that accesses the system. Is this normal? I checked the
date on the file libc.so.1 and it seems normal.

What doesn't make sense is the system boots fine (all web/ftp/email/database
services) and all services seem to work fine. I even have "su - root" or
"su - sybase" etc in some of the /etc/rc3.d files and those seem to login
and run fine.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
I suppose if anyone could gzip and send me their "libc.so.1" and
"ldlibnet.so" files that would be great. My system is a E250 with Solaris
8, 64 bit installed. Below is the header from when the OS starts to boot if
that is required for matching.

SunOS Release 5.8 Version Generic_108528-07 64-bit
