After your opinion: VxFs v ufs+logging & Disk-suite

All...

Not really a problem at all, but I would appreciate your opinions. I'm
happy to summarise.

Current company standard=
1. Veritas volume manager (VxVm) for volume management and disk mirroring
2. VxVm used to control boot disks (i.e.., rootdg)
3. Veritas File System (VxFs) used for all non o/s file systems

This works just fine. However, VxVm for o/s is not integrated very well
into Solaris and this causes issues when you come to upgrade either VxVm or
the o/s. Specifically, you need to un-mirror and un-encapsulate. (This is
just not an issue on Tru64).

Benefits of SVM are that it is free. VxVm costs big money.

Benefits of UFS are that it is free and it now has a logging option. VxFs
costs big money.

Benefits of VxVm are that it is essentially the same product as the TRU-64
LSM, so in these mixed environments, support costs are reduced. Also, HP
have indicated that HP-UX will go VxVm on Intel-64.

Lots of questions and issues!!!

What are peoples opinions on the use of Solstice Disk Suite, or Solaris
Volume Manager as it is now called?

1. Do you use one product to the exclusion of the other? If so which one
and why?

2. If you use both VxVm & SVM, do you use one product for mirroring o/s
disks and the other for mirroring application disks? If so which for which?

3. Do you use UFS+logging for application file systems or do you use VxFs
for application file systems? Do you have a preference and why?

4. Do you use any of the snapshotting capabilities of Veritas?

Any other thoughts would be welcome.

I'm particularly interested in what you do on both high end systems
(E10K/F15k) and low to mid range systems, and if you do different things on
different systems.

If you are also an HP-UX user, do you have any intentions to migrte to VxVm
as this is now supported?

Many thanks

Tony
