Thanks very much to all those who answered my query about data recovery
firms in the UK. I received a lot of very helpful replies and, although we
haven't made a final decision yet, we are closer to selecting which company

The consensus seems to be that either Vogon or Ontrack are the companies to
go for although the others mentioned all sound like they would be up to the
task as well.
