E4500 doesn't see its disks

Hi,
one of my E4500 refuses to see any scsi disks i put onto the disk board.
probe-scsi-all only returns the cdrom. I am trying to install solaris8 on
it, and the installer can't see any disks, niether can format when i get
dropped into shell and run it.
I have a good reason to believe all disks i have function properly, since they were all in production before
and are tested.
At this point, I'm stumped.. What am I missing?
