Thanks to Casper Dik, William D. Hathaway and Ryan C Anderson.
The conslusion is that: zfs import on a broken pool should not cause a
panic (so this is a bug, I am not sure whether it is a known one), and
that there is no very good way of looking at a pool which has not been
imported to detect what, if anything is wrong with it.
