code to identify last login

Is anyone aware of a scripting process to identify the number of days since the last login of a user? Looking for a perl script, shell scripts, etc, that will either identify the number of days since login, or identify the time of last login (which can then be used to identify time since last login). Any input welcome, but finding last login from 'finger' is NOT the way I'd prefer to do this...
