To change mac on the interface cards ( but doesnt matter for my purposes-- [I couldnt remember if the mac address was the same]
    your eeprom:
    local-mac-address?=true

   machine on the network with MAC address of "00:0d:56:3b:c1:24" has same IP address as the machine below (010.010.001.119).

And Micheal first pointed out how to tell what manufacture of the machine by mac: "The first 3 octets of the ethernet address tell you the manufacturer of the ethernet card/device. In your case, '00:0d:56' corresponds
to Dell. The complete list can be found here:
