IPMP question

Hi All,
   
 I have many sun servers setup with IPMP in active-standby configuration.
 everything is working fine as expected.
   
 Question: In case, if i need to switch the roles i.e make active interface as
 standby and standby as active - what is the best practice. I want to do this
 online, with out reboot.
   
 I am able to do this by unplumbing both interfaces and running ifconfig
 commands manually to change roles ( active <-> standby). Wanted to check, for
 any alternatives - with out loosing network connectivity.
