Hello again,

I got response from joe_fletcher@btconnect.com only and he
suggested
about checking the type of fiber cables, etc. Thanks joe.

Now,
to make the things simple, I decided to test the same setup from a
Solaris
box to another Solaris box on the same 25K domain (not AIX).
But still it
does not work. I have installed almost all the qlc related
patches also - I
guess.

If anyone has done this setup, please let me know is there any
special
configuration, I should make to achieve this (IPFC or FCIP).
Thanks,
Rasheed.

Subject: FCIP -
direct cable connection
Importance: High

Hello All,

I am trying to
connect a Solaris 9 box (25k) with an AIX one using
direct cable connection
on fiber card (FCIP). I have configured the fcip
on both the boxes. I can
ping, telnet, ftp on the fc cards on both boxes
from the same side only, but
unable to ping the other side - AIX (and
vice versa from AIX).

The
distance between both boxes is approx. 60 meters. The fiber cable
looks ok to
me and I can see the green light on the HBA (qlogic).

Did anyone
configure the fcip using direct cable connection before. If
so, please let me
know what steps I am missing here. The said fibre
cable is going through a
patch panel - not through a switch (as far as I
know).

When I do a snoop
on the fc, I get the below error:

# snoop -d fcip2
Using device /dev/fcip
(promiscuous mode)
fatal dlpi error: Requested serv. not supplied by
provider. Device fcip2
dlpromisconreq: DL_ERROR_ACK: dl_errno 7 unix_errno
0

Thanks in advance,
Rasheed Tamton.
