Hi there,
I have a 4 satellites + 2 DB nodes system. All the satellites are based on Solaris 5.8. Recently and all the satellites are installed the same software and conf except the IP address.
Recently, I noticed that there is some snmp error as below displayed in the /var/adm/messages of satellite-2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sep 17 13:54:55 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] Agent snmpd appeared dead but responded to ping
Sep 17 14:02:44 msp1 last message repeated 3 times
Sep 17 14:06:47 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] Agent snmpd appeared dead but responded to ping
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With some instruction I googled from Internet, I edited the config file /etc/init.d/init.snmpdx and added the option "-f 0" to the snmpdx start command as below
--------------------------------------------------------------------
/usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx -y -c /etc/snmp/conf -f 0
-------------------------------------------------------
Then, the error message "Agent snmpd appeared dead but responded to ping" was gone but a new snmp error was displayed as below in the /var/adm/messages ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sep 20 04:57:47 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] session_send_loopback_request() failed
Sep 20 05:53:41 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] agent_process() : bad community from 192.6.1.68
Sep 20 05:53:41 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] local pdu process error
Sep 20 05:53:41 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] session_send_loopback_request() failed
Sep 20 07:31:48 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] agent_process() : bad community from 192.6.1.68
Sep 20 07:31:48 msp1 /usr/lib/snmp/snmpdx: [ID 702911 daemon.error] local pdu process error
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And, what's strange me most is that I never know what's the ip address of "192.6.12.68".
I was wondering if you guys know what does the error message indicate? And how to discard these snmp error messages?
Thanks in advance
Regards
K.Y
PS: The satellite-1 is with the exactly same snmp configuration with the other satellites nodes. But the problem just happened on the statellite-1.
