NIS-user account login problem

Managers,
  I have one slave server and it is binding to it self. when I do ypwhich it gives me same server name which is NIS slave. when I do ypwhich -m it gives me maps from master server.
   
  users are not able to login to that particular machine. there is an entry on /etc/shells for the shell they are using. What else to check?? could you please suggest.
