I have the following metadevice which is 100% full and now I need to
increase the size of it:-

df -hl /ora2

Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on

/dev/md/dsk/d18 197G 194G 1.1G 100% /ora2

Once I have added some space to d18 I then need to growfs the file
system, but I'm not 100% sure of the syntax. Can someone advise me of
what I need to do here as I do not want to end up destroying d18 as it's
a production server oracle mount point?

When I create metadevices I tend to put the entry's into the
/etc/lvm/md.tab file, so once I have attached a new device I take it
that I need to also update this file?

Below is the syntax for d18 from the md.tab file:-

# /ora2 san mount point

d18 1 1 /dev/dsk/emcpower1a

Sun V280
Solaris 9

We use a standard backup script, which reboots the server and then
starts the backup. They forgot to load a tape so the server is now sat
saying no tape loaded with a flashing black square.

I've tried all the usual key strokes to try and break free from the
script but to no effect.

Tried rebooting the server again, but it gets stuck in the same place
asking for a tape.

So, loaded a tape, server rebooted and started the backup. Tried to
break out of the script, no effect, so powered off the tape drive. This
caused scsi time out errors, but the script then sat at the black
flashing square again!

Can't telnet into the machine, it says connection refused. Only option I
can see is just to let the backup run, but this takes 4 hours!

So we are stuck in a catch 22 situation. Do you know anyway we could get
around this?

Many Thanks

Hi All,

When I try to install a new package the machine spits the following
error

The following package is currently installed:
   PkgNameSegmentation Fault (core dumped)

And on trying to do a pkginfo I get the following error:

pkginfo: ERROR: pkginfo file is corrupt or missing

Could you please help me out in figuring out

What exactly all this infers to and of course the solution to overcome
the same.

Thanks in Advance

All, until just recently I could add users through SMC with templates
that have been in place for a year or more. Now when I select
Action->Add
User->From Template I get the following warning in the console and the
template window never starts. From there it just hangs for as along as I
want it to. The server is running Solaris 9 and is the NIS master.

everything related to IPMP was done as per manual/pdf.

This server has a mate server with same configurations and both are
connected to a CISCO switch.

when there is a databse sync up goin on both servers all the interfaces
in the group fails. and there is data loss . Then is fails back on one
interface ...however there is data loss.

Kindly suggest....and advice...

Thanks in advance.

Other then that I have installed clear case client and vnc server.

Any suggestions please !!!

Hello,
We installed IPFilter 4.1.x on our Sun Solaris 8 server a couple of days
ago. The machine is running an NFS server and we are trying to secure it
so that only our labs can access it.
Problem is that some of the services (statd, mountd, ecc) are binding on
random ports so we can't have rules on ipf.conf.
Is there a way to 'tie' down those services to specif ports so that I
can
setup the IPFilter rules correctly?
Could not find anything so far!!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

 Hello,
Has anyone else noticed the following behavior regarding Oracle's use of
shared memory, specifically around the shmmax (Solaris 8) and
shm-max-memory (Solaris 10). Before we upgraded our servers from Solaris
8, our Oracle 10G databases were grabbing just 1 large shared memory
segment for the database. For example, this is what ipcs said while
running the DB on Solaris 8:
T ID KEY MODE OWNER GROUP CREATOR
CGROUP
NATTCH SEGSZ CPID LPID ATIME DTIME CTIME ISMATTCH
Shared Memory:

31138578432 21097 22653 10:47:09 10:47:09 7:52:43 790
After "Live Upgrading" to Solaris 10, and converting all our old
/etc/system settings to the new /etc/project format, we are noticing
that
now Oracle is grabbing the same "total" size shared mem segments, but
instead of just 1, it is being split up into multiple ISM segments?

Has anyone run into this? We are not sure if this is a Solaris 10
problem, or an Oracle issue? Sun Support is saying that have not seen
this before.
Any solutions out there to get Oracle back to using just 1 large shared
memory segment?
My last thing to test will be to put the old shmmax variable into
/etc/system, and reboot to see if that magically fixes the situation?
Thanks.
