Sun Backup Catch 22

Sun V280
Solaris 9

We use a standard backup script, which reboots the server and then
starts the backup. They forgot to load a tape so the server is now sat
saying no tape loaded with a flashing black square.

I've tried all the usual key strokes to try and break free from the script
but to no effect.

Tried rebooting the server again, but it gets stuck in the same place asking
for a tape.

So, loaded a tape, server rebooted and started the backup. Tried to break
out of the script, no effect, so powered off the tape drive. This caused
scsi time out errors, but the script then sat at the black flashing square
again!

Can't telnet into the machine, it says connection refused. Only option I can
see is just to let the backup run, but this takes 4 hours!

So we are stuck in a catch 22 situation. Do you know anyway we could get
around this?

Many Thanks
