Problem with tape drive

Dear Sun Admins

I have a DAT 3 4mm tape drive on an enterprise 450
running Solaris 7. Up
until two days ago I have been carrying out routine
tape backups without
a problem.

Now the tape drive ceases to function and
goes offline with no prior
warning. The only way to get it online is to do a
reconfiguration boot.

Any ideas on a possible workaround (apart from
a configuration boot)??

Regards

Shiroma
