kmail question

I have a user who uses kmail on her Solaris 9 Blade 150 desktop.
I unfortunately do not use that mailer so I do not know much about it.
I recently applied the latest Recommended Suite of patches to her desktop,
which included a sendmail patch. (Which, btw, is applied everywhere else
with no problem) kmail is no longer working properly - mail never goes
anywhere. According to /var/log/sylog, the message is received by localhost

Jun 4 09:33:18 cbt4 sendmail[4895]: [ID 801593 mail.info] l54EXIJN004895: from=cche44, size=0, class=0, nrcpts=0, msgid=<200706041433.l54EXIJN004895@cbt4.tsg.cbot.com>, relay=localhost

but nothing more.
There are two sendmail processes running,

cbt4*root:/var/log>> ps -ef | grep mail
   smmsp 4842 1 0 09:32:26 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/sendmail -Ac -q15m
    root 4844 1 0 09:32:26 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/sendmail -bd -ODaemonPortOptions=Addr=localhost -q15m

The DaemonPortOptions forces outbound mail to localhost, which then sends
it out. That appears to not be happening. The maillogs on the mail server
do not show that the message ever appears. There is nothing in the
/var/spool/mqueue or /var/spool/clientmqueue directories and no .dead.letter
file on the local machine. (This forcing outbound mail through localhost is
not new, btw)

mailx from the command line works fine, so sendmail is working as it should.

The error message from kmail when attempting to send:
----------------
Sending failed:
Sendmail exited abnormally.
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem
(e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
Note: Other messages will also be blocked by this message, as long as it is in
the 'outbox' folder
The following transport protocol was used:
Sendmail:

Any help would be much appreciated.
TIA, and summary forthcoming as always.
