Host File Automation

Hey Guys,

Another, hopefully quick question... I'm seeking more of a 'solution'
here versus a fix (in my mind, there is a difference :-) )

I have a user that manages our backup system, in order to run the Tivoli
Backup Management client from home, the user has:

1. Connect to our network via VPN
2. SSH to the Backup Server 'head' (Solaris 8)
3. Tivoli requires that the machine running the backup management
client, be list in the hosts file, so.. each time the user connects via
VPN, he gets a different IP and has to change the IP for this hostname
in the hosts file, in order to start the application.
4. Start the management client..

My question is.... the HOSTS file does NOT support wild cards to my
understanding, so.... is there a way that I can somewhat automate this
user changing his IP in the hosts file? Anyone know of a script that
might help? Perhaps a workaround?

In all, this user is just not very comfortable with always having to
open HOSTS and editing with Vi when he needs to run the client from home...

All help is appreciated.
