OS restore

I am new to Solaris and have a Situation.

One of my servers is running Solaris 9 .
I have tried to patch it but the kernel patch is still showing the old patch number. After several phone calls to SUN they told me that one of the CORE Solaris Package( SUNWcsr I think) is corrupted fun right LOL.
We will reinstall the OS to fix the problem ( I cannot belive that since UNIX is supposed to be sooo flexible) Why can't I just install the missing package?
Anyway this server has Oracle installed.
  My questions:
What is the best way to do this since we have full backup of the server.?
Install OS then restore some filesystem ?
install OS and then restore all filesystems?

  Thank you
