server virtualization

We are embarking on a project to explore options for server virtualization in our environment. The main goal is to evaluate options for consolidating Solaris and Linux (RedHat) on the same hardware on virtual machines.

I guess we are looking at what options are available for both the Sparc as well as the x86 platforms.

Some options that come to mind are:
- solaris 10 containers
- zen
- VMWare
- Virtual Iron

I am sure many of you all have been through similar projects. I was wondering if you could share your thoughts, experiences, evaluation results & methodology (if possible).
